With kids now back at school, daily drop-offs and pick-ups are back on the schedule. Add busy mornings, short trips, and stop-start traffic, and your vehicle can cop more wear than you might realise. That’s why now is an ideal time to book a car service — especially around school holiday time. At Bothwell Motors in Toowoomba, regular car servicing helps ensure your vehicle is safe, reliable and ready for both school routines and longer holiday drives. What Is a Car Service? A car service is a comprehensive check and maintenance of your vehicle to keep it operating as the manufacturer intended. It typically includes inspections, adjustments, and replacement of wear-and-tear items such as engine oil, filters, brakes, tyres, and fluid levels. As a Repco Authorised Service centre, Bothwell Motors follows manufacturer servicing guidelines while using quality Repco parts — helping protect your warranty and your peace of mind. Why Regular Servicing Matters Modern vehicles rely on multiple systems working together. Regular servicing helps:

- Maintain braking performance for safe school zone driving
- Ensure steering and suspension are stable on uneven roads
- Keep the engine running efficiently and reliably
- Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns during busy weeks or holiday travel

Short trips, like school runs around Toowoomba, are especially hard on engines because the vehicle often doesn’t fully warm up. Common Signs Your Car May Be Due for a Service Many issues don’t start with a breakdown — they start with small warning signs, such as:

- Unusual noises or vibrations
- Warning lights on the dashboard
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- Brakes feeling less responsive
- Air conditioning not cooling properly

If ignored, minor issues can place extra strain on related systems like the transmission, cooling system, or suspension. Vehicles Covered: Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid & More Car servicing is essential for all vehicle types:

- Petrol & Diesel: Oil quality and fuel system health are critical
- Hybrid Vehicles: Require specialised checks for both engine and electrical systems
- Electric Vehicles (EVs): While they need less engine-related maintenance, braking, tyres, suspension and cooling systems still require regular servicing Benefits of Servicing Before School Holidays With longer drives often planned over School Holiday Breaks, servicing beforehand can help:

- Reduce the chance of roadside issues
- Improve fuel efficiency on highway trips
- Ensure brakes and tyres are ready for heavier loads
- Keep air conditioning working in warm Queensland weather An Unusual Fact About Car Servicing Did you know that skipping oil changes can increase engine wear by up to four times? Clean oil doesn’t just lubricate — it also helps control engine temperature and remove contaminants. Tips to Prevent Costly Issues - Stick to service intervals recommended by your manufacturer
- Check tyre pressures monthly, especially before longer trips
- Don’t ignore warning lights — they rarely fix themselves
- Book a service if your driving habits change (like more school runs) Local Driving Conditions in Toowoomba Toowoomba’s mix of urban driving, hills, and temperature changes can put extra strain on brakes, cooling systems, and tyres. At Bothwell Motors in Toowoomba, we understand the importance of thorough car servicing before setting off on your holiday adventure. Why Car Servicing is Essential Before the Your Next Road Trip When was the last time you had your car's tyres, brakes, and fluids checked? Regular servicing can prevent unexpected issues that could disrupt your holiday plans. By addressing potential problems early, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your vehicle is in top condition. Towing adds extra strain on your car, making it even more important to ensure all components are functioning correctly. At Bothwell Motors, we offer thorough checks of your vehicle’s wheel bearings, suspension and cooling systems. These inspections can help you avoid last-minute delays and surprise failures on the road. Key Areas to Check Tyres: Ensuring your tyres have adequate tread and are properly inflated is vital for safety and fuel efficiency. Regular checks will ensure that your brakes respond effectively, reducing the risk of accidents. Fluids: Your car relies on various fluids for optimal performance, including engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid. Low or contaminated fluids can lead to overheating or system failures. Wheel Bearings: These are crucial for smooth wheel rotation and maintaining vehicle stability. Any wear or damage should be addressed promptly to avoid further complications. Suspension: A well-maintained suspension system enhances ride comfort and vehicle handling, particularly when towing. Cooling Systems: Prevent overheating by ensuring your cooling system is in good condition. This includes checking the radiator, hoses, and coolant levels. Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Bothwell Motors in Toowoomba, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Bothwell Motors, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Bothwell Motors for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

With winter temperatures dropping, it's not just us trying to find shelter from the cold, small animals like mice and rats also like to take shelter. Remember to be mindful of your car and check it for any intruders, such as mice. They can wreak havoc in just a few days, so remain alert to the possibility of thousands of dollars in damage. If your car isn't used often or in storage, then checking under the bonnet before you fire up the engine is highly recommended. Check out this pic of an animals nest in the engine bay!!
